Step 1 of 1Questions that determine your application

Questions that determine your application

This determines which Jobcenter is responsible. About a quarter of Jobcenters are run by the local authority alone. Some of these issue their own official forms. If that is the case for you, it will be stated right here.

Do you live alone or together with other people?

This means the shared household, not the family relationship. Each additional person creates a separate sheet; anyone under 15 gets a different sheet from anyone older.

How did you work most recently?

Anyone who is self-employed, has a trade or works in agriculture and forestry also fills in a business account. It is the most extensive sheet in the set.

Do you live as a tenant or in your own property?

The sheet on housing costs has a separate section for each of these. Anyone living in an institution or without housing costs chooses the third answer.

Are you permanently separated, divorced, or has your civil partnership been dissolved?

The Jobcenter then checks whether there are maintenance claims against the former partner. There is a separate sheet for that.

Does anyone under 25 live in your household whose parent lives elsewhere?

This also applies to you yourself if you are under 25. For each such person the Jobcenter checks child maintenance on a separate sheet.

How things go on once everything is filled in

The application is not submitted digitally. You print it out, sign it by hand and hand it in at the Jobcenter yourself. You take these steps yourself — no longer here on screen.

  1. Print everything out

Print out all the sheets you get here: the main application and every annex. White paper in A4 format, printed on one side. Do not bind or staple anything.

  2. Sort by person

Put the main application on top first. Then come the sheets of the other people, with each person's annexes together. The shared sheets on assets and housing come last. That way the office finds what belongs together.

  3. Sign by hand

Sign where there is a line for the signature — with a ballpoint pen, not on screen. Every annex has its own signature line. People aged 15 and over sign their own sheets; for younger children the person with parental responsibility signs.

  4. Attach supporting documents

Attach the supporting documents as copies — which they are is stated at the end of the application on your own list. For expenses on the bank statements you may black out individual details; the payment reference must remain legible. For income this is not permitted.

  5. Keep a copy for yourself

Copy or photograph the complete set before you hand it in. That way you can look up later what you stated — and find the same details again in next year's continuation application.

  6. Hand in at the Jobcenter

Take the application to your Jobcenter or send it there by post. Which one is responsible depends on where you live; you will find the address through the Federal Employment Agency's office search. The application is not sent from here. What counts is the day it arrives at the Jobcenter. The application then takes effect retroactively from the first day of that month (Section 37 subsection 2 sentence 2 of the Second Book of the Social Code).

What you have to enclose

These documents belong with the application. Attach them to the printed set — the Jobcenter expects them together with the sheets.

  • Kontoauszüge der letzten drei Monate

From all accounts of all people in the household, complete and without gaps. For expenses you may black out individual details — the payment reference must remain comprehensible. For income this is not permitted.

Please check your details
