Grundsicherungsgeld

Bürgergeld at a municipal Jobcenter — a different official form?

About a quarter of the Jobcenters is run by the municipality alone — as an authorised municipal body.

These Jobcenters partly issue their own official forms; which ones they are stands on the page of the Jobcenter concerned.

The form set you fill in here is that of the Federal Employment Agency.

How you can tell

Which Jobcenter is responsible depends on the place of residence. At the start the process asks for the postcode. It then says whether the district is served by a joint institution or by an authorised municipal body. This attribution comes from the statistics of the Federal Employment Agency.

What the law says about form

§ 37 paragraph 1 sentence 1 SGB II requires an application for benefits under this book; the provision does not prescribe a form. Under § 9 SGB X the administrative procedure is not bound to a particular form. An application is therefore possible even without one's own body's official form.

What the details remain worth

The questions are the same in both cases: who lives in the household, what income there is, what the home costs, what assets are present. Anyone who has filled in the Federal Agency's set has the details together — even if the Jobcenter wants to see them on its own sheet.

Where the application goes

It is handed in at the responsible Jobcenter, at the counter or by post. The address stands in the office search of the Federal Employment Agency. What counts is the day on which the application arrives there.

What an authorised municipal body is

In most districts and district-free towns basic security is borne by a joint institution: the Federal Employment Agency and the municipality run the Jobcenter together. In the remainder the municipality runs it alone — that is the authorised municipal body. For the benefit itself this changes nothing; the same law applies, the same amounts, the same deadlines. What differs is the house style of the official forms and at times the local rules on the appropriateness of housing costs.

If the district is not clear-cut

Some postcodes lie across two district boundaries. The process then says that the attribution is not clear-cut and names both possibilities. Which Jobcenter is responsible is decided by the address, not by the postcode alone — in case of doubt the office search of the Federal Employment Agency helps further.

What that costs

One price for the whole set — no matter how many people live in your household and how many sheets that produces. The sample calculations are on the page about Grundsicherungsgeld.
